Uses of the ITU Managerial CompetenciesThe ITU sees the Managerial Competencies as a developmental tool both for individual staff members and for the organization as a whole. For Individual Staff MembersFor individual staff members, the competencies provide an opportunity to prepare for a promotion to management, to assess individual development of competencies and plan for professional development. Managers and their supervisors may also choose to use the competencies as part of performance planning or as an opportunity to get feedback from staff who report to them on how well they are practicing the managerial competencies. For the ITU OrganizationFor the ITU, the competencies provide a useful tool for communicating the organization’s expectations of managers, in hiring and orienting managers, in writing position descriptions for managerial positions, and in planning activities and professional development for ITU managers.
